Gang steal jewellery

A gang made off with more than R100 000 worth of jewellery after breaking into an Umhlanga home on Wednesday night in KwaZulu-Natal, Northglen News reports.

The incident took place on Portland Drive.

According to police, the suspects gained access to the home via the front door after trying to force open a rear window.

It is alleged the suspects also tried to force open the safe but were unsuccessful. Police are still searching for the suspects involved in the break in.

The incident comes on the back of a spike in breaks ins, including incidents on Buxton Road and Virginia.

In addition, on Thursday morning, a gang of men robbed the Checkers LiquorShop by Virginia Circle on Thursday morning. The gang – carrying sledgehammers and firearms – smashed through the glass window of the shop before making off with several bottles of alcohol.

According to police sources, the gang of seven were in and out of the store within two minutes.

According to Craig Ardendoff of Sun Cell Watch, there has been several attempted break ins this week, including Hoylake Drive, Balgownie Crescent and Chelsea Drive.
