Huge traffic delays were experienced during peak hour on the N3 in Germiston after a multi-vehicle accident in which four people were killed.
Max Cohen of Emer-G-Med said the accident occurred at 4.40pm on the N3 North near the Leondale Road off-ramp in Germiston on Wednesday, Kempton Express reported.
“On arrival paramedics found a scene of chaos. A truck and six cars had been involved in the incident, apparently after one car veered into oncoming traffic,” Cohen said.
On assessment it was found that the four occupants of a Citi Golf had sustained fatal injuries, some having been ejected from the vehicle. They were declared dead on the scene.
“Four other people were injured in the collision with one patient being in a critical condition having sustained multiple fractures. The critically injured patient was stabilised at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital under the care of an Emer-G-Med Advanced Life Support paramedic,” Cohen said.
The three other patients who sustained minor to moderate injuries were also transported to various medical facilities for further care.
The N3 was closed in both directions between the Leondale and Heidelberg exits.
