Family feud ends with life sentences for uncles who murdered nephew

Two uncles have been sentenced to life behind bars for murdering their nephew, Johannesburg police said in a statement on Wednesday.
The Johannesburg High Court sentenced brothers Qiniselihle Eric Danisa, 43, and Maphutha Hendrick Danisa, 55, after earlier convicting them of murder and the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Qiniselihle Danisa was sentenced to an effective 25 years behind bars for murder, five years for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and two years for the possession of ammunition. The two and five year sentences will run concurrently with the life sentence.
Maphutha Danisa was sentenced to an effective 25 years for murder.
The court found that on June 14, 2015, the two men shot and killed their 29-year-old nephew Phiwayibona Dumakude at Dube Hostel.
Police spokesperson Captain Xoli Mbele said a family feud had resulted in the murders of about eight people from Emsinga in Kwazulu-Natal.
Both men were arrested in August 2015 at their workplaces in the Booysens area.
Mbele said he hoped the sentence would send a message that taking the law into your own hands will not be tolerated.
