EFF student leader drops dead rats at Mandela statue

He said he placed the rats at the statue’s feet to illustrate the poor living conditions of the people of Alex, whose lives hadn’t changed since 1994.

President of the Economic Freedom Fighter Student Command Peter Keetse placed a number of rats, both dead and alive, at the feet of Nelson Mandela’s statue in Sandton City. The incident occurred on Mandela Day.

The plaque at the feet of the statue read ‘Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela-A celebration of Hope’, Northglen News reported.

Keetse explained to TimesLIVE that he placed the rats at the statue’s feet to illustrated the poor living conditions of the people of Alexandra, whose lives hadn’t changed since 1994.

He then followed up the gesture by tweeting a photo of the statue surrounded by shacks, calling it the legacy of the ANC government.
