Five EFF members sworn in as new Ekurhuleni MMCs

The EFF said the appointment of its councillors in Ekurhuleni will prove the party is ready to govern.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)  has welcomed the appointment of five EFF councillors as Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMCs) in the City Of Ekurhuleni.

The party said on Thursday that the councillors were appointed by the newly elected mayor of Ekurhuleni, Sivuyile Ngodwana.

‘Firm governance’

According to the EFF, the appointment of its councillors means the City of Ekurhuleni is one of the first municipalities where the party has a “firm” governance role to play and occupy strategic positions.

The party said this will allow the EFF to implement the policies of the red berets to better the lives of Ekurhuleni’s residents

‘Ready to govern’

The EFF said its councillors will turn the metro around. The red berets even welcomed the opportunity to prove that the party is “ready to govern” in Gauteng’s municipalities.

“The EFF has the utmost faith that these dedicated councillors will turn around the City of Ekurhuleni and stabilise the finances of the industrial hub of Gauteng, provide sustainable energy, reliable infrastructure, 24-hour health services and dependable waste management that will rescue our communities from sewage spillages and illegal dumping,” the party said.

“This appointment of the MMCs in Ekurhuleni, following the appointment of EFF councillors as MMCs in the City of Johannesburg, and the election of EFF councillor Bethuel Munyai as Speaker of Rand West District Municipality, reaffirms the declaration made by the EFF that we are indeed ready to govern.”

The party also encouraged all newly elected MMCs and speakers to ensure good governance in all municipalities.
