Donnelly eliminated in quarter-finals

South African Bobby Donnelly's brave fight for a medal at the World Indoor Bowls Championship (sets format) ended at the Warwilla bowls complex near Sydney, Australia, on Monday.


Donnelly lost in a quarter-final play-off 8-2, 8-7 to Tony Wood of Australia. Wood had also beaten the South African Proteas player in an early qualification round.

Shannon McIlroy of New Zealand beat Scotland’s Stewart Anderson 8-7, 2-11, 2-1, in another quarter-final.

The world’s top 24 men and women are competing in the championship, in two sections of 12.
