Award-winning director and filmmaker, Dan Mace, has done it again.
Famous for his Seeing Sounds series in which he recreated songs like The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights by making music with bricks, and Justin Bieber’s song, Peaches, which he recreated by making music with actual peaches, the YouTuber finds inspiration in all kinds of everyday things.
His latest video was inspired by food delivery company, Checkers Sixty60, announcing that they will be dispatching 2,500 scooters over the festive season. He’s been revving up the festive season in a very unique way, with a remake of Santa Claus is coming to town, making music with Checkers Sixty60 scooters, their drivers and a choir.
Mace’s creativity is showcased in a video where he identifies sounds from actual scooters to recreate the Christmas song, putting smiles on not only those participating in the project, but also those around them.
“When I heard that the food delivery brand was going to be dispatching 2,500 scooter drivers of joy this festive season, I jumped at the opportunity to turn our collective frowns upside down. My team at Joe Productions and I composed this track and the associated video because we refuse to go gentle into that Silent Night,” says Mace.

He says South Africans are some of the most resilient people in the world, “despite so many of us having had our holiday plans scuppered”.
For him, the project is all about putting the “festive” back in “festive season” and smiles on the faces of South Africans who need it most at the end of yet another difficult year.
In order to put their money where Mace’s mouth is, Checkers Sixty60 will be kitting all 2,500 of its scooter drivers in Santa suits this year, starting today, doing its bit to spread the festive cheer among customers countrywide.
