Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen has warned South Africans that if they vote for the African National Congress (ANC) or the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the 2024 general elections, they will be a creating “doomsday scenario that will make the collapse of Zimbabwe look like a dress rehearsal and leave all South Africans destitute”.
Steenhuisen made the remarks during an interview on BBC’s HARDTalk with Stephen Sackur.
City Power to reduce load shedding hours for Joburg
City Power will exclude key customers, essential services and some businesses from load shedding and is also eliminating the “4-hour-long” power cuts.
The announcement was made by Johannesburg Environment Infrastructure Services MMC Jack Sekwaila on Thursday.

Cholera outbreak: Gauteng death toll rises to 20
The number of people who have died of Cholera in Hammanskraal, outside Tshwane, has risen to 20.
The Free State also reported that one person died after being diagnosed with cholera.

Western Cape: late school admissions applications close at midnight
The Department of Education in the Western Cape has officially announced that the deadline for late admission applications for the upcoming 2023/2024 school year will be at 11:59pm on Thursday, 25 May 2023.
The online application process, which began on 13 March 2023, at 00:01 and concluded on 14 April 2023, at 23:59, was made available to parents and caregivers. The department is urging all parents, particularly those with children entering Grade 1 and Grade 8 next year, to promptly gather and certify the necessary documentation required for the application process.
