The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) board has terminated CEO Andile Nongogo’s contract after an investigation into allegations related to the appointment of direct payment service providers.
Nsfas board chairperson Ernest Khosa made the announcement during a presentation to Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) on Tuesday.
AfriForum prevails in controversial battle over R50m donation to Cuba
In a contentious battle over a proposed R50 million donation to Cuba, the AfriForum has claimed a victory.
AfriForum said on Tuesday that the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) dismissed the Department of International Relations and Cooperation’s (Dirco) attempt to appeal an interdict to stop their planned R50 million donations to Cuba.
Probe initiated: Deputy Health Minister faces sexual assault accusation by male staffer
Deputy Health Minister Sibongiseni Dhlomo will be investigated after allegations of sexual assault against him, Parliament has announced.
The investigation comes after a male parliamentary staff member accused Dhlomo of harassing him last month. The incident allegedly took place at Dhlomo’s ministerial home in Cape Town’s southern suburb of Rondebosch on 5 September.
Election possibly between May and the middle of August next year- IEC
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) officially launched its 2024 national and provincial elections programme on Tuesday at the Gallagher Estates in Midrand.
The IEC also unveiled the 2024 National and Provincial Elections (NPE) logo and the theme is: “Your democracy – Own it”.
The electoral body declared that it was ready to host millions of eligible voters at more than 23 296 voting stations across the country.
Senzo Meyiwa trial: Defence grills cop over ‘tainted’ process
A police officer has insisted that he had no prior knowledge about the charges one of the five men accused of killing Senzo Meyiwa faced when he was taken to do a pointing out of the crime scene.
The cross-examination of Colonel James Hadebe continued in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Tuesday.
Hadebe is one of the witnesses giving evidence in a trial within a trial, which is being held to determine the admissibility of confession statements, pointing out and warning statements by all five men in the main trial.
Enyobeni Tavern owners’ application for dismissal of charges denied
The East London Regional Court in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday denied an application by the owners of Enyobeni Tavern to have charges against them dismissed.
The Enyobeni Tavern owners, Siyakhangela and Vuyokazi Ndevu, face charges of contravening the Liquor Act for allegedly selling alcohol to underage children and potentially coercing employees to engage in illegal activities.
