Dr Pashy opens criminal case against Thabo Bester and Nandipha Magudumana

Celebrity doctor Mmereka Patience Martha Ntshani, popularly known as Dr Pashy, has confirmed to The Citizen that she has opened a case against convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester and his girlfriend Dr Nandipha Magudumana.

Dr Pashy opened a case of fraud against the couple at the Sandton police station on Thursday, 20 April 2023.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the mass shooting on Friday that claimed the lives of 10 family members in Imbali township in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

Ten people from the same family – seven women and three men – were gunned down by a group of unknown armed men who stormed their home. An eight-year-old was wounded and another person, a 22-year-old, escaped unharmed.

AfriForum loses appeal as court upholds ruling that apartheid flag is hate speech

AfriForum suffered another loss in court after the organisation appealed the ruling that displaying the apartheid flag is hate speech.

The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) delivered its judgment on Friday.

Charges dropped against accused in Nulane R24.9m fraud trial

The Bloemfontein High Court has dismissed charges against the accused in the R24.9 million Nulane Investment fraud trial.

This after five of the six accused in the matter applied for discharge applications in terms of Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Act. Section 174 states that an accused person may be acquitted of charges if the state fails to make its case.

Load shedding: No reprieve for Muslims during Eid-ul-Fitr

Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan has told the Muslim community of South Africa that there will be no reprieve from load shedding on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr as the electricity grid is severely constrained.

This comes after a number of organisations including the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) of South Africa wrote to Gordhan requesting that the deliberate power cuts be suspended on the day of celebration which culminated the ending of Islamic month of Ramadan.

McCarthy: Sundowns need mental shift for Champions League

Mamelodi Sundowns are playing what is considered to be their biggest game so far this season, as they take on Algerian side CR Belouizdad in the first-leg of the Caf Champions League quarterfinal on Saturday.

The elephant in the room for Sundowns, however, is that of late, they have not been the well-oiled machine that they are know to be and going into the knockout stages, Fabian McCarthy, a former Masandawana who was part of the squad that played in the 2001 Champions League final, says there has to be a shift in mentality at Chloorkop.
