Daily hacks: Kernel-free microwave popcorn, how to strain pasta and more

In our 'Daily hacks' series, we bring you the latest beauty tips, trends and tricks to transform your life and save you money.

There are many things in the world that we have become accustomed to doing because they were taught to us from a younger age.

Although we are used to them and have found it hard to change, there are easier, quicker and correct ways to do certain things which we usually do on a daily basis.

In this daily hack, we learn the right way to enjoy microwave popcorn, the proper way to strain your pasta, and the easiest way to get Tic Tac out of their container.

Microwave popcorn

It is nearly impossible to get every single popcorn kernel in the microwave popcorn bag to pop without burning the majority of your popcorn.

Usually, we just leave the kernels which have not popped at the bottom of the popcorn bag and just enjoy the delicious and fresh popcorn that has been cooked, and just throw them away once we are done eating, but TikTok user Sidney Raz has blown our minds with a life hack and method that everyone should definitely know.

In the video, he throws the bag of popcorn into the microwave and then cooks it until the majority of the kernels have popped.

When he takes the bag out, he demonstrates that we are all supposed to shake out any uncooked kernels through the small opened slit at the top of the bag to ensure that all of the popcorn which is in the bag is all cooked and popped.

The kernels which have not been cooked can then be put back into the microwave or prepared over the stove.

Straining your pasta

Almost everyone uses a strainer to strain their pasta or rice to avoid losing any of their cooked food in the sink while trying to get rid of the water that was used to boil the food.

Ideally, whatever you are boiling or cooking should be thrown into the strainer over the sink to ensure that water passes through the strain, while saving your food, but this may be the incorrect way to strain your food.

Lylaa Shaikh has shared a video on a hack on how we should all be straining our pasta and rice using strainers.

In the video, she demonstrates the usual way in which most people strain their food, which is to toss the food into the strainer.

She then shows the correct method, and puts the strainer directly over the pot and tilts the pot over to let all the water run out through the holes and slits of the strainer.

Getting Tic Tacs out of the container

We have all been shaking the living daylights out of Tic Tac containers to try and get the Tic Tacs out, but this is definitely the incorrect and less-efficient way to enjoy your treats.

Kim Girard has shared the correct method of getting Tic Tacs out of their container. In the video, she flips the Tic Tac container upside down and then opens the container’s lid.

Once she opens the container’s lid, a Tic Tac comes out and sits on the lid, where it stays in place until she removes it off the lid.
