Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba may have referred the conflict of interest matter involving a consultant who offered his services for free to the City also working for his wife’s company, but he is far from remorseful.
This morning Mashaba told Power FM’s Thabiso Sithole he remain convinced that he acted in the best interests of the 4 000 security guards who were in-sourced, and said “I will do it a hundred times again.”
Sithole wanted to know from Mashaba whether the announcement by the DA federal council (Fedex) that he must account for the allegations bothers him. Mashaba said his political bosses are welcome to do what they have to.

Fedex Chairperson James Selfe confirmed that he has communicated with Mashaba’s office to request him to furnish Fedex with “facts on the matter.”
Selfe said only once Mashaba has formally responded to their request will they be in a position to decide on the best course of action going forward.
In his letter addressed to Vasco da Gama, City of Joburg Council speaker, Mashaba said he was “waived” his rights to confidentiality “and would welcome the process being conducted openly.
