Covid-19 update: 7,086 new cases and 431 deaths identified in SA

There has been an increase of 404 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.


As of Tuesday, South Africa has recorded a total of 2.777,659 positive cases of Covid-19, with 7,086 new cases identified since the last report, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), has announced.

This increase, according to the NICD, represents a 14.4% positivity rate.

“As per the National Department of Health, a further 431 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 82,261 to date,” it said in a statement.

16.475,179 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.

The majority of new cases today are from KwaZulu-Natal (25%), followed by Eastern Cape (22%). Western Cape accounted for 17%; Free State accounted for 10%; Gauteng Province accounted for 8%; Northern Cape accounted for 7%; Mpumalanga accounted for 4%; North West accounted for 3%; and Limpopo accounted for 2% of today’s new cases.
