Cops, robbers in Pretoria shootout
None of the police was injured during the shoot-out, but two bullet holes were left on the bonnet of their vehicle.
Pretoria police were involved in a Hollywood-style car chase and shoot-out just as the sun rose over the city yesterday morning.
Around 5.53am, Pretoria Central police received information of suspects in a white Toyota Quantum, who were about to commit a business burglary at Sammy Marks Square.
But on the way to the location, police found that ADT security were already on the tail of the Quantum and they joined in, police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said.
“The suspects shot at the police and hit the bonnet [of police vehicle], but the police retaliated and a shoot-out ensued.”
The chase came to an end in Sunnyside when the suspects were cornered on Troye and Berea streets. Six suspects were arrested. One of them was shot in the upper body and is in hospital under police guard.
“Police seized one firearm containing 15 rounds, a loaded magazine with nine ammunitions and house breaking implements. A white Quantum without registration numbers was also recovered, which was used in the commission of crime.”
None of the police was injured during the shoot-out, but two bullet holes were left on the bonnet of their vehicle.
“The suspects are being detained in Sunnyside police station and are facing charges of attempted murder, possession of an unlawful firearm and ammunition as well as housebreaking implements. They will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Msimango.
