A police constable and a reserve warrant officer stationed at Diepkloof Police Station were arrested in Zakariyya Park, Lenasia South, after they were caught allegedly stealing copper cables, Rising Sun Lenasia reports.
“It is alleged that the security guards who were on duty found the police officers and a resident taking out copper cable,” said Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo.
It is believed the men were removing an underground electrical cable, which ran underneath a powerline.
According to Masondo, police working in that area were then called and arrested their colleagues.

“Police will not tolerate any form of corruption and crime committed by police, and will not hesitate to arrest them. We will continue to eliminate police who collude with criminals, as they are the ones who dent the image of other police, whereas we have a lot of hardworking, loyal and dedicated officers.”
The arrested officers will appear at Lenasia Magistrates’ Court facing charges of attempted theft.
