City in a race against time

And after several failed attempts to lure the likes of Manqoba Mngqithi and Clinton Larsen, City are reportedly in talks with Bloemfontein Celtic assistant-coach Boebie Solomons.

City have been without a mentor since the resignation of coach Duncan Lechesa last month, and fitness trainer Eduardo Schoeler has been supervising the team.

The team’s dismal start to their maiden Premiership campaign has been well documented and the inclusion of Solomons might well see a change of fortune. The rookies have managed only one victory from their six league encounters and with their next fixture against Bidvest Wits in a week’s time, the coaching post cannot remain vacant.

But, neither Solomons nor City were willing to comment on the negotiations because it has always been an inherent rule among coaches not to divulge their future plans unless the contract has been signed.

Solomons was in charge of Celtic during the team’s Macufe Cup victory over Kaizer Chiefs at the weekend but there was never a hope that he could continue with his tenure after the team brought in Ernst Middendorp from Maritzburg United.

Unconfirmed reports also suggest that former Botswanan coach Stanley Tshosane has submitted his CV to the club.

Tshosane who took the team to their first Africa Cup of Nations appearance in 2012, was sacked last month after failing to reach the semifinals of the recent Cosafa Cup and again failing make it to the final qualification stages of the 2014 Fifa World Cup.
