Chasing the trophy
This year's national Superbike racing series, the SuperGP Champions Trophy 2015, will boast an expanded programme of events.
TWO WHEELS. The 2015 SuperGP title chase will start at the end of this month, offering spectators four racing categories over a weekend.
It will be run over seven rounds between March and September, alternating between inland and coastal circuits. The championship will maintain its stand-alone format, with a two-day race weekend consisting of qualifying on Saturday and racing on Sunday, along the lines of the Superbike World Championship.
This year’s championship will also see the introduction of the KTM SuperJunior category.
The four participating categories in 2015 – SuperGP, Super600, SuperM and SuperJuniors – will kick off their respective championships on March 22 at the Phakisa Raceway near Welkom.
Stephen Watson, an executive director of GAS Sports, the managers and promoters of the SuperGP motorcycle championship series, said: “We have conducted a full review of our first season and have made some changes for 2015.
“The race day programme is much fuller with the addition of our new SuperJunior category and the calendar is easier on the competitors and teams from both a budgetary and logistics perspective.
“We have some exciting announcements to come in the weeks leading up to the first round of the championship, including long-term sponsorship commitments.”
