Mpumalanga police officer arrested after robbery
Apparently, seven men accosted the bakery owner and his wife while they were cashing up at closing time.
Suspects arrested
A police constable and three suspects were arrested for business robbery in Charl Cilliers, in Mpumalanga, Ridge Times reports.
According to the police, the men were armed with handguns and robbed the couple of an undisclosed amount of cash. The owner chased after the robbers, while his wife activated the security alarms.
The swift response by Kasselman Security guards and the police saw the immediate arrest of four of the perpetrators before they reached their getaway vehicle that was waiting close to the scene.
Police discovered that one of the apprehended culprits is a police officer from the Charl Cilliers Police Station. His service pistol was also found in the gateway vehicle.

The three robbers who managed to escape are still at large, but the police are optimistic they will be found soon.
“It is devastating to find that police officers are involved in crime,”said Lieutenant-General Mondli Zuma, provincial commissioner of Mpumalanga.
“However be that as it may, we will work closely with the residents to ensure that we gather information that will assist us to nab all those who are responsible for orchestrating criminal activities within our ranks. I promise the public that the investigation team will make sure we have a watertight case against the suspects so they can languish in jail for a long time.”
Zuma said an internal investigation over the arrested officer was under way.
