Moodie Steet in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal, has been compared to a war zone after an alleged cash-in-transit heist unfolded in the early hours of this morning.
“It is believed several pedestrians were caught in the crossfire between armed guards and a gang of suspects,” said Blue Security spokesperson Andreas Mathios.
According to Rescue Care’s Garrith Jameson, one of the guards was shot dead, while the second was critically injured, Highway Mail reported.
It is unclear at this stage if any arrests have been made.
He said road closures have been implemented on Moodie Street, Hill Street, as well as Dales Avenue.
Hundreds of people have gathered at the intersection of Moodie Street and Dales Avenue. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
