As SA President Cyril Ramaphosa calls for global peace, the US is pushing efforts for Russia and Ukraine to agree to a ceasefire.
Ukraine has been a battleground for three-years after an invasion by Russian forces.
According to AFP, Russian President Vladimir Putin is yet to respond to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s proposal to halt air attacks on civilian targets. Last month, Putin rejected a US-Ukrainian call for a full and unconditional ceasefire.
However, US President Donald Trump lashed out at Zelensky this week for refusing to accept Russia’s occupation of Crimea as a condition for peace.

Amid these pushes for a ceasefire, fighting has continued.
On Thursday, Russia fired a barrage of missiles and drones at Kyiv, killing at least eight people. The attack led to Zelensky cancelling part of his trip to South Africa.
