Cables stolen by City of Tshwane worker

It is alleged the suspect was notified not to take the cables but went ahead.

A City of Tshwane (COT) worker within the water and sanitation division faces disciplinary action after he allegedly took cables without the authorisation to do so, Centurion Rekord reports.

“The said electrician was initially advised by management not to tamper or move out the cables in question, but it turned out that he was hell bent on pursuing misconduct presumably for ill gains,” said Member of the Mayoral Committee for Utility Services, Darryl Moss.

“Such misconduct will not be tolerated under the current administration’s watch. I will await a comprehensive disciplinary report on the matter. If the artisan, who will be investigated internally for suspected theft, is found guilty I expect further criminal charges to be pressed against the employee.”

He said it pains him to hear about the shortage of wire stock from the stores to enable installation of cables meant to transmit electricity to households during unplanned outages.

“Today, I now know the used up stock is sometimes acquired dishonestly and illegally by some employees. This theft will come to an end. The alleged cable “spoil” was recovered on the day and due processes of discipline will be followed to suspend the employee, ” said Moss.
