Here’s what’s happening in South Africa today: The African National Congress’ deputy secretary general, Jessie Duarte, passed away on Sunday morning.
Duarte had been on medical leave since November 2021 and was undergoing cancer treatment. She was also recently hospitalised over gastrointestinal complications.
Mass shootings have been reported in Khayelitsha and Lenasia, and the ATM is calling Ramaphosa to address the matter.

What you might have missed yesterday: Three bodies were found in a burnt-out vehicle in Mpumalanga.
As reported by Arrive Alive, the torched vehicle was discovered at a farm in Pienaar with three human remains burnt beyond recognition.
In a separate incident, the body of a missing 22-year-old woman from Orange Farm was found dead in Evaton North, Vereeniging, with severe burns to her face.
