Boy, 10, critical after near-drowning incident

The paramedics started with advanced life support resuscitation, and after a few minutes, the child’s heart started to beat again.

A 10-year-old child has been hospitalised after he almost drowned in the east of Pretoria.

Netcare 911 ambulance services responded to the scene in Meiring Naude Street on Wednesday, Rekord East reported.

“Paramedics from Emer-G-Med arrived at the scene and found a 10-year-old boy unresponsive next to the pool,” said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.

He said exact detail of what happened was not immediately clear.

“The paramedics started with advanced life support resuscitation and after a few minutes everybody breathed a huge sigh of relief when the child’s heart started to beat again.”

The boy was stabilised on scene before transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital.
