Temperatures in Gauteng are expected to get even colder, with temperatures expected to drop significantly ahead of the weekend.
The cold weather is a stark reminder that winter is coming and signals for South Africans to start getting their blankets out.
The cold snap is also likely to put pressure on the electricity grid.
Cold weather warning
Gauteng Weather warned residents to brace for a cold snap across parts of the province from Friday.
“Breaking: Very early forecast suggests cold snap in Gauteng from Friday!!!”
Gauteng Weather forecast temperatures dropping to a minimum of 6°C in Johannesburg with a high of 16°C
Pretoria has been forecast with a minimum of 8°C and a high of 18°C.

Weather
Meanwhile, the South African Weather Services (Saws) has issued no warnings for Monday.
However, it has warned of extremely high fire danger conditions over the Laingsburg, Kannaland, Oudtshoorn, Breede-River Valley and the Cederberg Municipalities of the Western Cape.

Gauteng
Partly cloudy and cool, but warm in the north with a cold snap forecast for Frirday.
Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga will experience morning fog in the south, otherwise partly cloudy and cool but warm in the Lowveld. Isolated showers and rain expected, except in the Highveld.
Limpopo
Saws said Limpopo will be partly cloudy and warm but cool in places with isolated showers and rain in the south.
North West
The North West will be fine and cool to warm, becoming partly cloudy by afternoon.
Free State
Residents can anticipate morning fog in the extreme east, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm but fine in the south.
Northern Cape
Partly cloudy and cool along the coastal areas with morning fog patches, otherwise fine and warm. It will become partly cloudy in the east in the afternoon.
Western Cape
Morning fog along the western and south-western coastal areas, as well as the adjacent interior where it will be partly cloudy, otherwise fine and warm to hot but cool in the south-west.
The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south-westerly north of Cape Columbine, otherwise moderate to fresh north-westerly to westerly.
Western half of the Eastern Cape
Fine and warm to hot. The wind along the coast will be light northerly, becoming moderate westerly from evening.
Eastern half of the Eastern Cape
The eastern half of the Eastern Cape will experience fine and warm weather. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-easterly.
KwaZulu-Natal
Morning fog over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain along the north coast.
The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly north of Durban, otherwise light to moderate north-easterly.
