“Our Field Unit was on patrol when they spotted a blue VW Golf with three occupants. They pulled the car over and searched the vehicle and found a number of baby formula cans which were allegedly stolen from different chain stores in the area. The trio, two men and a woman, were not able to provide receipts for the cans. They were taken into custody and charged with being in possession of suspected stolen items,” Dlamuka said.

The formula tubs ranged in price from R179 to R329. According to police statistics, retailers nationally lose between R2 billion and R3 billion through shoplifting every year.
