Armed gang storms KZN home

The armed gang took advantage of workers fixing fibreoptic cables.


An armed gang robbed and assaulted a Somerset Drive family on Thursday afternoon, Northglen News reports.

The gang, three of whom were armed, stormed the premises just before lunchtime, confirmed Captain Raymond Deokaran, spokesperson for the Durban North police.

“The armed gang took advantage of the open gate at the premises as a company was fixing the driveway entrance after the laying of fibreoptic cables. The men, were in a white golf with NJ number plates. They accosted one of the workers on site before storming into the home. The men then assaulted the wife and intimidated the husband. They demanded valuables and made off with jewellery, a TV and items from a safe.

“A tenant, believed to be the family’s son-in-law, came out of his property behind the main house to investigate the commotion, and was robbed of his laptop and other items. No shots were fired in the incident, and the suspects sped off in the vehicle,” he said.

The incident also comes two days after a shootout in a La Lucia home, which then brings the number of armed robberies to seven in the past 21 days in the area.
