The African National Congress has encouraged one of its senior parliamentarians, Makhosi Khoza, to report the death threats she claims to have been receiving to the police.
This comes after Khoza, known for speaking her mind, said the death threats she has been receiving were not limited to herself.
Speaking to The Citizen, Khoza said her daughter also received death threats.
She said the ANC had been informed about the threats on her life, but nothing had been done.
“I don’t know what is expected of me, because I have raised the issues with Jackson [Mthembu] and the speaker … Jackson knows I have opened criminal cases and my daughter opened one on Tuesday after she received death threats as well,” Khoza said.
ANC chief whip in parliament Mthembu said they would not add anything more to what they had said before referring queries to Luthuli House [ANC headquarters].
Party spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said they were concerned about the threats levelled at one of their own.
“We encourage her to go to the police and we want the police to leave no stone unturned in investigating these threats.
“It is, however, unfortunate that she [Khoza] has been publicly speaking about the threats and raising other issues without engaging us directly. Even the threats to her life, we have been reading about them in the media. We hope she will come to us. Our door is always open,” he said.
When asked if the ANC was planning to take disciplinary action against Khoza, who recently also wrote a letter to the speaker of parliament, Baleka Mbete, asking for a secret ballot during the upcoming motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma, Kodwa said there was nothing planned at this stage.
