ANC MP to face disciplinary action for misconduct

ANC MP and former North West spokesperson Kenny Morolong has confirmed he will face an ANC disciplinary hearing by its provincial executive committee (PEC) for misconduct at the weekend.

Morolong was charged by the PEC for supporting a high court application by some disgruntled ANC members who questioned the legitimacy of the provincial conference held from 12 to 14 August, 2022 and its outcomes, including the PEC election.

Court matter

The seven members wanted the court to declare the conference and its results null and void, but the matter was dismissed by the court without explanation.

In affidavits submitted in court, the members complained about “irregularities” during the conference, including the alleged rigging of the election and duplication of delegates. The complainants, who are from different branches, cited the ANC, its national executive committee, provincial chair Nono Maloyi and other structures of the party as respondents.

Morolong, a member of the previous PEC and interim provincial committee, was charged with putting the ANC into disrupt following utterances he allegedly made outside the North West High Court in Mmabatho on 2 December, 2022. He addressed a group of ANC members, allegedly telling them the PEC was “fictitious” and “fraudulent”.

Members should respect constitution

The new PEC said Morolong contravened Rule 25.17.1 as he failed to abide by ANC membership oath in its constitution. The oath, among others, requires that a member should respect the constitution and the structures of the ANC and to work as a loyal member.

The PEC alleged a video was circulated showing Morolong addressing a group of people.

In the address he said: “We don’t need the court of law, we came here to confirm that we will be confirming on Tuesday we already know that these PEC is fraudulent, that these PEC is fictitious that the provincial conference was fictitious by all measures.

“Now we are not going to be intimidated by anybody; they can charge us. We are children of the movement [and] there is nothing they can do that they have not done already to the ANC. They have divided the ANC.”

Morolong accused NEC members who conducted the conference of complicity in the manipulation of the conference. “I’ll not be surprised if some of them were bought, some of them, we know them, and they have dodgy characters and very corrupt…”

He confirmed he addressed the group and that he will appear before the PEC on Saturday and Sunday. “I will defend the remarks I made because I believe in their correctness,” he said.
