Amakhosi don’t recognise new Ingonyama board

The appointment of the board, has left people questioning the relationship between Zulu prime minister Mangosuthu Buthelezi and Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

Amakhosi of the Zulu nation have announced publicly that they do not recognise the newly-appointed Ingonyama Trust Board.

The appointment of the board, especially its chairperson Inkosi Thanduyise Mzimela, has left people questioning the relationship between Zulu prime minister Mangosuthu Buthelezi and Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

Buthelezi was reportedly in favour of the reinstatement of former board chairperson Jerome Ngwenya while King Misuzulu’s favourite candidate was Mzimela.

We owe our indebtedness to Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi for his sterling and visionary service to the Zulu nation. His unprecedented brainwave to create the Ingonyama Trust was a watershed step to ensure the dear land that our ancestors died for was in our hands.

“We are abundantly and bravely available to protect our land from any type of mutilation, mismanagement, bargaining or gambling.

“We will resist such pathological eventualities with all our might until the last drop of blood in our veins”.
The amakhosi further pledged that the Zulu land will be treated on the basis of philosophies, noble values and spiritual modalities propounded by their forebears.

The meeting

The meeting resolved that a special board be appointed to relay the resolutions to the king. It also recommended the appointment of elders to be positioned at the royal household to assist the king in the day-to-day running of royal affairs.

Prince Zuzifa Buthelezi, who spoke on behalf of the amakhosi who were present at the meeting, said the committee was elected to take forward and action the resolutions that were taken at the meeting.

It’s a team of 12 mixed with amakhosi nabaNtwana [princes]. Their first task is to ask for an audience with His Majesty so that they go and give the full report on Friday’s meeting and resolutions, as well as afford His Majesty an opportunity to voice his sentiments [on the matter].

Attempts to get comment from the chairperson of the KZN Provincial House of Traditional and Khoi Leaders (KZNPHTKL), Inkosi Shinga, were unsuccessful.

Dumo Ntyinkala, who works in his office, referred The Witness to a statement released by the office.

“Inkosi Shinga as the chairperson of the KZNPHTKL welcomes the appointment of the chairperson of the ITB and the entire board.
