Dogs found hanging from tree

The Kloof and Highway SPCA in KwaZulu-Natal is appealing to witnesses to come forward following the deaths of three Africanis medium breed in the KwaNyuswa area.

Lisa Mörck, marketing manager at the Kloof and Highway SPCA, said field officer Eric Simamane responded to a call received last Friday about dead dogs hanging from a tree in the KwaNyuswa area, Highway Mail reported.

All three dogs were tan in colour. One was a female and the other two were males.

“On arrival, Eric saw the bodies of two dogs hanging from a tree and a third body lying on the ground. All three dogs were deceased and appeared to have been dead for a few hours,” said Mörck.

She added the people responsible for this tragic incident had fled the scene and Eric tried to gather information from community members as well as establish who the dogs belonged to, but no owners have been located at this point in time.

“The bodies were brought back to the Kloof and Highway SPCA where postmortems will be conducted by the veterinarian and the bodies will be sent for further testing so we can establish what the possible cause of death could be,” said Mörck.

The Kloof and Highway SPCA is urgently appealing to anyone with information to contact them on 031 764 1212/3 or email inspectorate@kloofspca.co.za. All information will be treated confidentially.

“Sadly, we will be unable to prosecute or open a case unless we have evidence and witnesses to give statements for this horrific incident.

“The Kloof and Highway SPCA have a zero tolerance for animal cruelty and incidents like this are taken very seriously – animal cruelty is a crime,” said Mörck.
