Series of road accidents stain Western Cape and KZN roads

A day of road disasters unfolds in Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.


Today proved to be a dark day on Western Cape roads as a series of accidents resulted in tragic outcomes and disrupted traffic flow.

Accident round-up

A series of road accidents hit Western Cape today, leaving one man dead and several others, including a pregnant woman, injured. Investigations are ongoing.

Three-vehicle collision

Tuesday morning was off to a grim start when a man was killed and five others were injured in a collision involving three vehicles on Plattekloof Road in Panorama.

The accident occurred just after 9am and involved a truck, an SUV, and a bakkie. Emergency services from ER24 and the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue swiftly arrived on the scene.

They found six men in the bakkie, one critically injured and the rest with minor to moderate injuries.

Despite providing advanced life support, the critically injured man succumbed to his injuries upon reaching the hospital.

Mitchells Plain hit-and-run

Adding to the chaos was a separate hit-and-run incident on the N2/R300 in Mitchells Plain, which left one person critically injured.

As reported by Arrive Alive, local authorities responded swiftly to assist and conduct investigations.

The suspect had not been apprehended at the time of publishing.

Pregnant woman injured in truck accident

Meanwhile in KwaZulu-Natal, a pregnant woman was injured in Oaklands when a tow truck collided with the car she was traveling in.

According to witnesses at the scene, the tow truck had tried to avoid a vehicle which suddenly braked in front of it.

In an attempted evasive maneuver, the tow truck collided with a silver Kia Picanto driving in the opposite direction.

The injured woman was transported to the nearest hospital as concerned passersby contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) to report the incident.

Local law enforcement officials are investigating these distressing accidents further.
