A double for Sykes

Kawasaki rider Tom Sykes produced two dominant performances in the penultimate round of the World Superbike Championship at Magny Cours yesterday.

Sykes took a comfortable win in race one from closest rivals Sylvain Guintoli and Eugene Laverty on factory Aprilias. Sykes then waltzed away with race two with Laverty ahead of Guintoli.

South African champion Greg Gildenhuys, on the BMW Motorrad GoldBet entry, was a retirement in the Superstock event. The race was won by Jeremy Guarnoni on an MRS Kawasaki. Niccolo Canepa (Barni Ducati) and Gildenhuys’s team-mate Lorenzo Savadori completed the podium.

In the Supersport race Sheridan Morais (GoEleven Kawasaki) bounced back to form with a fifth place. Ronan Quaqrmby Prorace Honda) finished 16th and Matthew Scholtz (Suriano Suzuki) was a retirement.

World champion Kenan Sofuoglu (MRS Kawasaki) won from Sam Lowes (Yakhnich Yamaha) and Christian Iddon on and MV Agusta. Second was enough for Lowes to clinch this year’s championship.
