There’s just one more game week to go in the Fantasy Premier League for the 2018/19 season, and also one last chance for Phakaaathi Private Fantasy League players to get themselves to the top of the monthly standings, with the prize for May a Canon Powershot SX730 HS camera valued at R4 999

With only two game weeks this month, this is a short, sweet competition, and the leader after Gameweek 37 was Fatima Seedat, whose Bench-Warmers team picked up 102 points for the week, to lead the pack by 14 points. Bench-Warmers used their bench boost chip to help them climb to the top, though in the end only 19 of their points came from the substitutes. Marko Arnautovic got 13 points for his two goals for West Ham against Southampton, while Ederson of Manchester City picked up six points for his clean sheet against Leicester City on Monday night. In their first XI, Bench-Warmers capitalised on their decision to captain Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, who grabbed two assists as the Blues beat Watford 3-0, racking up 22 points in total. Everton’s Lucas Digne and Wolves’ Matt Doherty are sixth and 10th respectively in the top points scorers for all FPL defenders this season, and both got 12 points for Gameweek 37, after an assist and clean sheet, Digne’s coming against Burnley and Doherty’s against Fulham. Salomon Rondon, meanwhile, was the lone striker for Bench-Warmers, and got 11 points for a goal and assist in Newcastle’s 3-2 loss at home to Liverpool. In second place in the May standings right now is Sheraaz Saloojee and Gunning for Glory, who also played the bench boost chip, though only 13 of Saloojee’s 88 points for the week came from the subs. Saloojee also captained Hazard (above), and had Rondon on board in the first XI, while Gunning for Glory also had Liverpool pair Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk on board. Despite conceding two goals to Newcastle, Van Dijk got eight points after netting in the same game, while Alexander-Arnold got 10 points for his two assists. This weekend’s final game week will take a careful balancing of players, with teams who have nothing left to play for possibly resting player to give youngsters or fringe players a game. But with Liverpool and Manchester City still chasing the title, there are still plenty of star names to pick from too.
