Family survives nightmare trip

Two armed men abducted the family of four and forced them to withdraw cash at an ATM after robbing them of their cellphones.

A Westville family in KwaZulu-Natal was taken on a nightmare trip by two armed men after being abducted from their home and forced to draw cash at an ATM, Highway Mail reports.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said two men climbed up to the second storey of a house on Dunkeld Road and gained entry via a window at about 5.45am.

“The robbers, both with firearms, used a ladder and an eight metre-long rafter to climb on to an air conditioner to reach the second storey of the house, where they forced open a window to get in. They held up the family of four at gunpoint and robbed them of their cellphones,” said Mathios.

“They then forced the family into their vehicle and drove to an ATM where they made them withdraw cash. Along the M19, the robbers  jumped out of the family’s car and ran towards Quarry Road East informal settlement. The father was able to drive his family home. Luckily, they all escape unharmed,” he said.
