Limpopo doctor killed, wife and daughter wounded in farm attack

The suspects fled the scene in the doctor's wife's Black Edition double cab bakkie, however the vehicle was later found abandoned several kilometers from the scene.

A Lephalale doctor and his family were attacked by four unknown suspects on their farm, Goedehoop outside Lephalale in Limpopo on Wednesday evening.

It is alleged the attack occurred at around 21:00pm and Dr Werner Emslie’s wife (Mariette) was seriously injured and his daughter (Barbara) was also injured, Review Online reported.

Dr Emslie was shot and died on the scene. The suspects fled the scene in Mariette’s Black Edition double cab bakkie, however the vehicle was later found abandoned several kilometers from the scene, where they allegedly climbed over into another vehicle.

Mariette is currently in a critical but stable condition in a hospital in Pretoria.

According to message sent by a neighbour of the Emslie’s, Barabara let a friend know via SMS that armed suspects had surrounded their house.

“When we got to the house we found the body of Werner on the veranda. Mariette was lying in the walk-in safe and had sustained serious wound. What we could see was that she had been shot and sustained several knife wounds.”

More to come.
