Car jammer surprised as driver turns back

The suspect tried to flee on foot after being spotted but the mall’s security guards were too quick.

A suspected car jammer was caught at Norkem Mall after a driver decided to return to his vehicle before entering the mall in Ekurhuleni, Kempton Express reports.

Norkem Park police spokesperson, Lesibana Molokomme said the driver thought his doors and windows were locked but was surprised to see, from a distance, a man (46) inside his vehicle.

“As he rushed to his vehicle, the man jumped out and tried to flee on foot. Fortunately the mall’s security guards were able to catch him.

“This arrest again shows criminals are able to use car-jamming or signal jamming devices to steal valuables from vehicles without breaking into them. We urge motorists to double check at all times that their vehicles are indeed locked,” said Molokomme.

The suspect appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court for attempted theft.
