Loan shark arrested for possession of 846 Sassa cards

Police say during an intensive operation, 846 Sassa cards, three laptops, two cameras, three speed points and R343 075 in cash were confiscated.


Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke says a suspect was remanded in custody by the Northam Magistrates’ Court for contravention of Sec 20 of Social Security Act 13 of 2004 and National Credit Act 34 of 2005 in Limpopo, Review Online reports.

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday, 22 August 2017, in Northam, following an intelligence-driven operation by Hawks, Sassa and National Credit Regulator (NCR) members.

“During the operation, 846 Sassa beneficiary cards, three laptops, two cameras, three speed points and R343 075 in cash were confiscated,” said Maluleke.

This arrest follows the arrest of eight loan sharks at the beginning of August.

Maluleke says more operations are still going to be conducted around the province.
