Farmer shot in farm attack near Ladysmith

A farmer in the Winterton area of Ladysmith, in KwaZulu-Natal, was busy on his farm with his workers when a man, who had been sitting alongside the road, suddenly pulled out a firearm and shot the farmer in the back.
The farmer managed to retaliate, and the suspect was fatally wounded, Ladysmith Gazette reported.
The farmer was rushed to hospital.
Police have seized a pistol used by the deceased suspect, as well as ammunition.
A case of attempted murder has been opened with regard to the shooting of the farmer, while an inquest has been opened into the death of the suspect.
