Couple caught on CCTV stealing expensive whisky in Mpumalanga

A couple managed to steal an expensive bottle of whisky from under the nose of one of the co-owners of a whisky store.

Steve Adams, co-owner of Wild About Whisky, said security footage revealed how the inconspicuous couple managed to slip a bottle of Glenfiddich 26, valued at R6 000, from the shelve and hide it under the man’s jacket before leaving the shop, Middelburg Observer reports.

All the while, the couple were making small talk with an unsuspecting woman behind the counter.

Adams later posted screenshots of the couple on to Facebook in an attempt to track down the whisky thieves. He said that he had not yet opened a case, but might do so once the suspects are traced.

“We have learned a lot about our security through this incident,” Adams said.

He said the main aim of posting the pictures on to Facebook was to warn other businesses about the couple. Wild About Whisky is described as the best-stocked whisky bar in the southern hemisphere with over 1 100 different types of whisky to choose from.
