Newborn baby dumped in dustbin

The baby was treated for hypothermia and stabilised at the scene before being taken to hospital.

A newborn baby was found abandoned in a dustbin in Olievenhoutbosch, Centurion.

Netcare 911 paramedics were called to treat the baby boy for hypothermia after he was apparently left in the bin overnight on Saturday, Rekord Centurion reported.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Nick Dollman said: “Reports from the scene indicate that the baby was found in a rubbish bin by a passerby.

“He took the baby to a nearby church, where the baby was wrapped in a blanket and taken to the local police station.”

Paramedics were called to the police station to examine the baby, who appeared to be experiencing difficulty in breathing.

“The little boy was still attached to the placenta,” said Dollman.

He was treated for hypothermia and stabilised at the scene before being taken to hospital.

Police are investigating. The mother of the child had not yet been found.
