Six arrested for recent farm attacks

The suspects are believed to be responsible for the shooting of a well-known herbalist on his farm.


Members of the crime prevention team worked round the clock on Wednesday and finally tracked the six suspects to Schaumburg in Hartbeespoort and Keinfontein, near Brits, where they were arrested.

A .22 handgun was found in their possession, Kormorant reported.

The suspects are believed to be responsible for the shooting of well-known herbalist Hennie Eksteen on his farm in Skeerpoort on June 29, the shooting of farmer Dries Botha on his farm at Klipkop near Brits and the shooting of a farmer at Kleinfontein near Brits on the evening of July 4, 2017. “Hartbeespoort police members Sergeant Walter Ngobeni, Constable Enock Sejamoholo, Constable Alfred Mpye, Detective/Constable Donald Kgasi and K9 member Const Temba arrested the six farm attack suspects after working nonstop for the past two days.

“We want to thank them for excellent police work and their dedication in making the area safer,” said Hartbeespoort community policing forum spokesperson Romano van der Spuy.

Five of the suspects are undocumented Zimbabwean nationals and come from Schaumberg, near Skeerpoort. They are currently in custody in Hartbeespoortdam police cells.

“Well done to these members. Excellent work. Your efforts are indeed appreciated.”
