WATCH: Black mamba found dead

An elusive reptile that was on the loose on uMhlanga’s beachfront in KwaZulu-Natal has been found dead, Northglen News reports.

The two-metre long black mamba was found near Egret Lane, and is thought to have been electrocuted by an electric wire. It was found by panicked residents who initially thought the snake was alive.

Sunningdale snake expert Jason Arnold said he has been called out on more than five occasions to capture the elusive reptile, which had given him the slip.

“Every time I have gone out, it’s proved difficult to find. The people that reported it said there are a few rats around so that could have drawn the snake to the area. Initially, I suspect it was a Mozambique spitting cobra because I’ve got a few near the Hawaan Forest, but I was shocked when the residents saying it was a black mamba. The residents said the snake was lying motionless on their lawn,” he said.
