Elderly man shot and killed during hijacking

His body was found next to the side of the road along with a shotgun cartridge.

An elderly man was shot and killed after he was hijacked just off the R34 in the Mevamhlophe area in KwaZulu-Natal.

The pensioner, believed to be on his 70s, was on his way to work at Empangeni Milling when he was hijacked and shot once in his chest on Thursday, Zululand Observer reported.

He was driving a white Toyota Hilux.

His body was found next to the side of the road along with a shotgun cartridge.

Police, however, believe the victim could have been shot with another firearm.

He is said to have been hijacked between 6.30am and 7am.

Nearby residents reported hearing a number of gunshots.

Police are combing the scene, and a case of murder and hijacking will be investigated.
