Body of UK man recovered on Durban beach

The deceased was a British citizen who regularly visited SA to train for triathlons, police say.


The body of a man has been recovered on Oasis Beach, opposite Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Durban Search and Rescue divers recovered the body of the man, Dave Lewiston, who is believed to be a British citizen, Berea Mail reported.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said it was unclear what had led to the drowning.

“The 79-year-old victim was swimming in the shorebreak after cycling on the promenade and when he drowned. An inquest docket has been opened at the Durban Central SAPS.”

“The victim is a British citizen who regularly visits SA to train for triathlons. His next-of-kin in Australia has been notified,” she said.
