The boy’s  aunt (name withheld), said police arrested the man at his home on Monday.

“Police phoned us last night to inform us the man who beat up our boy was arrested and would be spend the night in custody.”

Police spokesperson Captain Michael Mbewe said the man was charged with assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The boy accidentally hit his neighbour’s VW Jetta with a stone while playing in the street with other children.

“I don’t understand why would he beat my nephew like that because there was not even a scratch or dent on that man’s car,” the aunt said on Monday.

The boy was rushed to the clinic around midnight on Sunday and he was traumatised by the ordeal; every time he tried to explain what happened, tears came streaming down his cheeks, and he struggled to speak.

Mbewe said the man would appear in the Mamelodi Magistrates’ Court today.
