Manhunt for Pretoria ‘hospital robber’

The man is wanted for theft of motor vehicles and a stolen cellphone.

The Wonderboompoort police in Pretoria are still searching for a man possibly behind a string of robberies the past year.

Police spokesperson Constable Mandlakayise Zwane said several charges of theft near Eugene Marais had been laid this year.

They ranged from theft of motor vehicles to stolen cellphones, Rekord North reported.

The latest charge was laid last Saturday.

The possible culprit was recently identified on the hospital’s security cameras.

“We strongly believe that the suspect could be involved in the thefts, or could possibly lead us to someone with more information,” Zwane said.

“It can clearly be seen in the pictures that the suspect is talking on one of the stolen cellphones. He is also seen walking in and out of the hospital without anyone noticing anything suspicious.”

The police warned residents to be vigilant.

“If everyone is aware of what is going on around them, we can prevent less thefts,” said Zwane.

“Thieves have become very clever and can easily use a distraction method to observe and/or steal something.”
