Trio arrested for theft near PTA

It is suspected the items were stolen from Cell C towers.

Three men were arrested for possession of suspected stolen Cell C tower batteries near Erasmia on Monday just outside Pretoria, Centurion Rekord reports.

Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said the arrest took place on the R55 at about 3pm.

“Police were doing their patrols when they received a tip-off  about three men driving a white Toyota Hilux,” he said.

“It is believed the bakkie was used for criminal activities.”

Moloto said the bakkie was spotted on the R55 towards Olievenhoutbosch.

“Police managed to stop and search the vehicle where 10 Cell C batteries were found. The suspects could not provide the police with satisfactory answers on how they got the batteries with an estimated value of R40 000, they also failed to issue a proof of purchase,” he said.

The trio, aged between 31 and 33, were arrested and would appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrates’ Court this week.

“It is suspected that the items were stolen from the Cell C towers in the Bronkhorspruit area,” Moloto said.

Erasmia police station commander Lieutenant-Colonel JJ Makhumisane applauded the police for their swift response and appreciated the useful tip-off by the public.
