A 27-year-old woman was stabbed and sexually assaulted along a footpath in Birdswood, in KwaZulu-Natal.

Richards Bay police spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira said the victim was walking through the greenbelt pathway at about 10am on Monday after returning from a nearby tuckshop when she was attacked, Zululand Observer reported.

A man confronted her, demanding cash and her cellphone.
