14-month-old boy drowns in family pool

A 14 month-old boy drowned in his parents’ pool in Van Riebeeck Park on the East Rand.

Senior reaction officer Chris Kallis from MML Security was first on the scene after they received a notification of a panic button that went off on Monday, the Kempton Express reports.

“When I arrived at the house, the child had been taken from the pool and was lying next to it,” said Kallis.

“I moved him to the grass where there was more space for me to start performing CPR.”

According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, paramedics received an emergency call from MML Security a few minutes after Kallis had arrived on the scene.

When ER24 paramedics arrived, they continued with CPR for about an hour. They moved on to advanced life support interventions but there were no vital signs.

The boy was declared dead on the scene.
