'Paseo de los Monos' is a wildlife sanctuary located in the Ecuadorian Amazon and it's here that abused, orphaned and abandoned monkeys are given a second, happier chance at life.
A ‘Black Spider monkey’, one of an endangered native species of Amazonian fauna, lies at a natural reserve certified by the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Natural Resources (IBAMA), located on the shores of the Rio Negro, the Amazon River’s largest affluents, in Manaus, northern Brazil, on October 1, 2008. The monkeys taken in by the sanctuary are all victims of animal trafficking, mostly sold as pets, and are usually kept in cages or chained up.
